Come on in, the lid's open

Welcome to Rummi's Dumpster

Rummi is a raccoon with a little tanuki in him. He grew up in the national parks and now works as a park ranger for city dumpsters, because nothing should go to waste. He believes every bin holds one perfect thing, and nobody here is judging your snacks. Pull up a milk crate.

Life is a dumpster. Dig it.

Tap the dumpster and Rummi will dive in to see what the universe threw out today.

Hats & treasure

A hat for every adventure

Rummi keeps a hat for every kind of adventure, but most of them are still somewhere in the dumpster. Every dig turns up trash, and now and then a hat. Faded hats are still out there.

Rummis

Tap a Rummi for a surprise, or pick a move. Faded moves are hiding in the Cave of Wonders: keep digging until a glowing mushroom sprouts. Every hat you dig up comes with a move of its own.

The Way of the Dumpster

Rummi's whole philosophy fits on a pizza box

Long ago a tanuki tried to turn himself into a temple bell, fumbled the spell and came out as a raccoon instead. He liked it better. He kept the leaf tucked in his hatband, and he has been at peace ever since.

  • Don't chase the snack

Rummi never hunts for treasure. He climbs in, gets comfortable and lets the dumpster show him what it wants to show him. The Taoists call it wu wei.

  • There is no garbage

Only pre-treasure. A cracked mug is a planter that hasn't heard the news yet.

  • Pickup day is a new day

Every Tuesday the bin is emptied and filled again. Nothing stays. That's what makes it interesting.

  • Follow the mycelium

Under every alley there is a web of mushroom threads, quietly connecting everything to everything. Rummi finds that very comforting.

  • One perfect thing

Every dumpster holds exactly one perfect thing. Usually it's a bottle cap. That's enough.

House rules

How we do things around the bin

  1. Everyone's welcomeRaccoons, people, possums, pigeons. Come as you are, mask and all.
  2. Take what you needLeave a blessing in its place. Rummi will take your fries, but he'll bless you for them.
  3. Wash your findsRaccoons rinse everything before they eat it. It's less about germs and more about saying thank you.
  4. Tip your hatIt's how we say hello. No hat? A nod is fine.
  5. Let it goThe truck comes Tuesday. Whatever you didn't dig up, someone else will.

Friends of the dumpster

The regulars

Rummi isn't the only masked one who stops by. These are the saints of the alley, and every one of them has a favourite bin.
